Eros.com Lawsuit

topic posted Mon, August 7, 2006 - 1:08 AM by  Unsubscribed
If you are a woman and have ever bought an ad from Eros.com check out this post from another forum. It has important info for you.

Apparently they charge women but not men and it turns out that is illegal, and the woman who filed the suit won, not only for herself but everyone!

Someone that I know got her check for this this week but the bummer is that you have to give your "real" contact info in order to get your check so I know that a lot of ladies who qualified did not apply. I'm sure the attorneys did well though!!

Class actions always benefit the Lawyesr way more than the supposed clients.

If you're implying that financial benefit is the only benefit, then you are right.

I would suggest money is not the only benefit to class action lawsuits. If it were not profitable for attorneys, they wouldn't be willing to do the immense amount of work involved in pulling one off. The benefits of successful class action lawsuits go far beyond monitary benefits, and they benefit us all.

I don't really understand how this lawsuit benefits everyone...? Eros was trying to promote sex work as something that both men and women participate in...not just an institution that demeans and exploits women, but a job that employs both men and women. The site was started by a man and a woman who were both in the SI.

Men make far less money at it than women do, particularily M for W. Why not let the guys advertise for free? A good friend of mine is a male masseuse who advertised on Eros. He would get 3-4 calls a month off of the site..max. until he "lost his scholarship".

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. I think that a male presence is necessary in sex work. I am sick to death of the "feminist" view that prostitution is a violent, degrading act perpetrated by men on women...as if all women in sex work are victims. As if all sex workers are women. MEN ARE SEX WORKERS TOO!

Those in opposition to decriminalization would rather not have to explain male prostitution, and how it fits in to the big picture of sex work.
They would rather visit Eros and see scantily clad women only. How demeaning! How degrading! Women who exist only to satisfy the lustful impulses of overly sexed men. Give me a break, already.

If Eros offered free advertising to men, it was probably for a good reason.. they certainly were not making money from offering free advertising to men. So what if "the law" says that offering the same service to men and women at different pricing is illegal...we in the sex industry know just about how useful "the law" is to our cause.

    My two cents.
